The OBSERVING
THE ATACAMA - ITS LANDS AND SKIES &
IN-DEPTH ATACAMA ADVENTURES:
LAND AND SKY programs highlight the best
tourist attractions in the altiplano and desert
regions, and include a visit to the Very Large
Telescope (VLT), the Atacama Large Millimeter
Array (ALMA) site as well as 2 nights of amateur
astronomical viewing near San Pedro de Atacama,
the ultimate mecca of tourism and astronomy in
the Atacama. |
|
| |
These programs are particularly
well suited for amateur astronomers, but also
designed for people who enjoy contact with pristine
nature and are interested to be initiated on the
observation of the stars, planets, and the depths
of space. The tours, designed by two
astronomers, take great care to provide
opportunities for observing, photographing, and
learning about the jewels of the southern hemisphere
skies. |

The
Best pictures of the pristine Atacama
The most popular tourist destination
in El Norte Grande (and perhaps all of
Chile), San Pedro de Atacama sits in the
midst of some of the most breathtaking
scenery in the country-the heart of the
Atacama Desert.
A string of towering volcanoes, some
of which are still active, stands watch
to the east. To the west is La Cordillera
de Sal, a mountain range composed almost
entirely of salt. Here you´ll find
such marvels as the Moon Valley and the
Death Valley, part of the Reserva Nacional
los Flamencos.
|
|
|
|
|
| |
The desolate Salar
de Atacama, Chile´s largest salt flat, lies
to the south. The number of attractions in the
Atacama area does not end there: alpine lakes,
steaming geysers, colonial villages, and ancient
fortresses all lie within easy reach.

"We
are well acquainted with the Aurora Borealis
and beauty of the northern skies, however
the celestial wonders of the southern
skies are a whole wonderous new universe
of stars. QC is the ne plus ultra of astronomical
guides; we can heartily recommend them
to any astronomy club or lovers of astronomy.
As an amateur, it was the
most memorable, exciting, and knowlegeable
astronomical trip of our lifetimes. The
guides and astronomers were the best imaginable.
I really felt a kinship, brotherhood,
and empathy with them I never could have
imagined."
